Kearns High School
English Area of Distinction
3.5 GPA, and 3.0 CPA in all English Classes (9-12)
During your 9th -11th grades complete two full year Honors level English classes
During 12th complete one Honors level English class (AP English Literature/Language, CC Writing 1010, College Prep)

Submit Portfolio for approval, it must contain:
Transcript (Carolyn Carty - Registrar)
Application (Coon or Duran - we will give you the cover sheet when you are ready to turn it in)
Research Paper (Must be a clean, final, proofread copy)
Formal English Essay (Any paper from 10th - 12th on a formal English topic, must be a clean, final, proofread copy)
Writing of Your Choice (must be a clean, final, proofread copy)

AREAS OF DISTINCTION
Seniors may apply for "Areas of Distinction" diploma recognition in the spring of their 12th grade year. Each Kearns High School department has criteria which must be met in order to receive a seal of distinction. See your counselor for details and deadlines.

DIPLOMA OF MERIT requirements include:
  • 27 academic credits including state core Science classes from different areas, three full years of Math beyond pre-algebra, and one core elective from Math, Science, History or English.
  • No more than three outside credits from alternative programs.
  • 3.0 cumulative G.P.A.
  • Two Areas of Distinction minimum.
